Key Mahara Concepts
Mahara ePortfolio platform has several key features you should know before you get started. We’ll explore these in more detail at a later stage, we'll just summarise the various parts of Mahara for now.
- Blocks
Blocks are pieces of content that you drag into your portfolio page when you are creating or editing it. - Collections
Collections allow you to create a single “portfolio” from a group of portfolio pages. - Files
The Files section contains uploaded files you want to share with other users, or that you want to archive for your own collection. You can upload documents, PDF files, images, audio, and limited video. - Groups
Groups allow you to connect with other users in the system. Groups can be used for portfolio submission and peer assessment. - Journals
Journals are a blog-like tool that can be brought into your portfolio page. This allows you to engage in private and/or public blogging without having to subscribe to other social networking services. - Page
A page is a single portfolio page. This is where the bulk of your presentation work will be done. Two default pages already exist:- Dashboard – this is the page you see when you log into the e-Portfolio and when you click the Home link.
- Profile View – this is the page others see when they click on your Profile.
- Plans
The Plans section allows you to create a learning plan or a list of tasks that can be marked as completed. - Resume
The Resume section allows you to create an online resume that highlights your portfolio work. - Sharing
The Sharing section allows you to share your pages and collections with other users.
